Skier Profile - Kevin Murfitt- V1 Division
Kevin became totally blind after a car accident when he was 24 years old. Prior to his accident Kevin skied socially, but had never jumped or tricked. Kevin met an international water skier (single leg amputee) at a sports function and he encouraged him to join Geelong Water Ski Club and learn the three events for tournament competition.
Kevin has been skiing competitively since 1993 and is the current World Champion and World Record Holder in Jump. Kevin’s best results are Overall World Champion in 2001,2003, and 2005 World Championships, and world records in Tricks (Florida 1997), and Jump (Belguim 2005). Kevin regularly skis in able-bodied Trick competitions. Kevin relies on his Guide Dog, Traka, who jumps into the water when Kevin finishes skiing and guides Kevin back to shore by allowing Kevin to hold on to his tail. Unfortunately Kevin was injured prior to the last World’s but we hope he is back in action. Kevin’s goal is to recover from hip injury and regain world titles. Kevin is Chair of Vision Australia and has just finished his PhD in Employment & Disability.
